Employees (about 180) at the historic Glacier Park Lodge, built in 1913, also enjoy a small town feel with several independent motels and cafes, a gas station, mercantile and post office nearby.
Only 27 glaciers remain and it is thought that all will be gone by 2030 if global warming continues unabated. The park has over 1,120 km (700 mi) of hiking trails, almost 1,600 km (1,000 mi) of rivers and streams and over 2,000 lakes. Altogether, 1,132 plant species have been identified here and the remoteness of the area makes it rich in wildlife including 2 threatened species; Grizzly bear, and the Canadian lynx. The Going-to-the-Sun Road is one of the most beautiful drives in North America and is a staggering feat of engineering, taking nearly 11 years to complete.
Employee dorms, cafeteria, laundry and a recreation room are only a short walk from work. You could choose anywhere in the world to spend your summer, but NO PLACE in the WORLD is LIKE GLACIER!!
